What types of IDs can be verified?: We currently support government-issued IDs such as driver's licenses, passports, and IDs from 200+ countries including the US, Canada, UK, EU, and more.
How does the ID verification process work?: Our A.I. powered verification process uses advanced algorithms to verify the ID against a database of trusted providers. We also use OCR and facial recognition to ensure the ID is real.
How long does the ID verification process take?: The verification process typically takes a few seconds per ID. However, the time it takes to verify an ID can vary depending on the complexity of the ID and the network conditions.
Am I charged for customers that don't submit their IDs?: No, you are not charged for customers that don't submit their IDs. You are only charged for customers that participate in the ID verification process.
Are already verified customers charged again?: No, you are not charged again for customers that have already been verified. The system will automatically recognize already verified customers and not prompt them to verify again.
Can ID verification be only limited to certain products, or only the highest risk orders?: Yes, you can limit ID verification to only certain products or only the highest risk orders. This can be configured in the ID verification settings.
What is the Flex plan and who is it for?: Flex is our $34.99/month flat-fee Shopify tier that includes 5 ID checks per month. It's built for low-volume stores with unpredictable usage — merchants who want ID verification available for the occasional risky or age-restricted order without committing to an unlimited plan.
What happens if I reach my monthly check limit on the Flex plan?: Flex has a hard limit of 5 ID checks per billing period. We'll email you when you reach 80% of the limit as a heads-up. Once you hit the limit, new ID checks are paused until your billing period resets or you upgrade to Essential or Protect — both of which include unlimited monthly checks. You can switch plans at any time from the billing area in the Real ID Shopify app.
